The Hitching

OF DOUG AND WILLOW - NOVEMBER 10, 2018

The hitching of Willow and Doug

What is the attire?

The ceremony attire is maximum commitment, minimum anxiety. Go big or whatever.

Can we bring kids?

Yes! Of course you can but if you have more than a small village of children, we will need to secure additional housing - so let us know asap. This should be a family vacation or an excuse to vacation from your family, however you want to vacation at our wedding is up to you. We will be making the trip with our 2 kids, who we plan to foist on their grandparents or just let run wild.

When do I need to get there/leave?

Most people will be arriving on November 7 and leaving on November 14, and we have booked the entire hotel for those days. But of course we understand not everyone can take a week off so if you are booking a shorter trip, we recommend that you come as early as possible the week before, and then if you need to leave after the ceremony and reception that's totally fine. We have some stuff we'd love to share with you in the days leading up to the ceremony, so that's our preference if you can swing it. Alternatively, if you want to come even earlier than the 7th or stay even longer than the 14th - yeah!! let's talk!

Where will we stay?

Some people will stay in the villas, some people will stay in houses or hotels nearby. A lot of this depends on how soon people get back to us,  how many people are able to come, what people are able to do in terms of time and $. When we have RSVPs locked down we'll follow up with more information so you can book lodging. until then, don't worry about it. You can also look at the accommodations section of this website.

What are we going to do there?

Mostly hang out with us. That’s never gone wrong for you before, so you probably shouldn't worry about planning. But there will be stuff.

Like daily surf outings. Daily crafting opportunities (some partially mandatory). All the beach you want - there's a semi private bay at the bottom of the hotel stairs that great for swimming. Several competitive prizes will be awarded daily. Maybe. We can give you other ideas,  and the hotel will set up fishing, kayaking etc. and other excursions. Willow doesn’t want to see your dead fish, but Doug does.  Oaxaca is known for food – especially Mole. It’s at the base of the sierra madre. There’s a cute market in town. Surfing is amazing.

Will I need pesos?

Around town it is best to have pesos for payment. A handful of the larger restaurants and stores will take USD. Ripped bills are not accepted in any currency so make sure your bills are in good condition.

If you just bring an ATM card, you can withdraw money there. There are plenty of bank machines. No need to travel with a bunch of cash. If you choose to travel with money, then you should definitely change it at the airport in Mexico City if you can (the rate is usually way better there). But honestly an ATM card is the easiest and you get the best exchange rate on it.

Are credit cards accepted?

A handful of places do accept credit cards. It is best to have cash in pesos available.

What is the weather like?

November temperatures in Puerto Escondido have daily highs of about perfect throughout the month. It probably won’t rain, but any precipitation will also be perfect.

IMG_0340.JPG

What temperature will the water be?

Also typically perfect.  shorty wetsuits or wetsuit tops are sometimes used.

Can I drink the water?

We’ll drink purified bottled water. It is available in all stores. The villas provide 5 gallon bottles of purified water. All the restaurants in town use purified water and even the ice is made with purified water. As long as you don't drink the tap water there shouldn't be a problem. As for the food, all vegetables, salads, etc. in any of the restaurants sanitize everything. If you buy your own fruit and vegetables at the market, you will want to sanitize them. There are bottles of iodine for purchase at the markets and in the kitchens at the Villas; you'll have to soak them for 10 minutes and you are good to go. The palapas on the beach purify everything, so no worry there.

Should I rent a car?

No. Taxis are very easy to arrange. Also depending where you are staying, walking will get you where you'd like to go.
